Beverlee Sorensen received a mysterious letter from Diane Lasarzyk, an old co-worker who disappeared more than fifteen years ago while preparing for an explosive expose uncovering a massive financial conspiracy.
The surprising correspondence requested a meeting the next day.
At the appropriate time and place, Diane, clearly nervous, secures a promise from Beverlee, whose guilt over an incident years ago, induced her to accept. However, the acquaintance refused to disclose the nature of the promise, suggesting Beverlee may never have to honor it.
Within weeks, Diane was found dead. Murdered.
With a dear friend and sidekick, Beverlee must try to understand what Diane’s promise entailed. She encounters a pattern of deaths among Diane’s descendants tied to a feud of another prominent family suffering suspicious deaths of their own, who was the original target of Diane’s research.
The connection to this on-going family feud was the infamous Haymarket Riots of the 1880’s.
Beverlee must use her previous skills as an investigative reporter to fulfill her promise, assist in helping end more than a century-long feud, and avoid being harmed herself.
